The power of Gratefulness!

When our children were growing up in our home, we used to say two words to redirect them when they were disrespectful and ungrateful. We would sing song the words “Happy attitude”

our family code word for caution…they need to shift their perspective.

We taught our children that maintaining an attitude of gratitude is something we need to do on PURPOSE and it not only honors God…it’s GOOD for us!

Throughout the Bible, God calls us to gratitude.

Colossians 4:2 “ Pray diligently. Stay alert, with your eyes wide open in gratitude.” MSG

What Is Gratitude?

Gratitude is simply the expression of being thankful for the blessings of life. It is readiness to show appreciation and to return kindness.

The Effects of Gratitude Last Longer Than You Think

You might be surprised at the simple habit researchers now say keeps you happier, healthier, and better rested: counting your blessings. Researchers have discovered that those who write down three blessings every day had better immune systems, had fewer colds, had less trouble

falling asleep and staying asleep, and felt better about their lives. Interestingly, it’s not enough to simply say what you are grateful for. You must write it down.

Having a grateful heart activates the flow of even more blessings in our life. And by the same token, having a miserable heart, anxious thoughts, and a gloomy attitude has an opposite effect.

Proverbs 15:15 “All the days of the desponding and afflicted are made evil [by anxious thoughts and forebodings], but he who has a glad heart has a continual feast [regardless of circumstances].” AMPC

Developing an Attitude of Gratitude

CHOOSE not to entertain negative thoughts, words or actions. FIGHT them, with God's help.

1. Gratitude is a mindset. Start by keep a “Gratitude journal” of daily events that you are grateful for.

2. Gratitude is expressive. Besides expressing thankfulness to God, it is essential to learn how to thank the people in your life.

3. Gratitude is contagious. Your grateful actions exude a contagious positive energy.

Let the light of gratitude shine in your life!

Colossians 2:7 “Plant your roots in Christ and let him be the foundation for your life. Be strong in your faith, just as you were taught. And be grateful.” CEV

Blessings,

Cindy
