Keep Calm And Trust God
Life is a journey
On July 5, Pat and I celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary. To commemorate this special day, I decided to put together a collage of some photos of us over the years on Facebook. As I looked over the photos of us, I found myself reflecting on each memory and moment. Some memories were wonderful highlights like the day we were married and some memories were traumatic like the day I was released from the hospital after having emergency ankle surgery from a fall on black ice. Life does have its twists and turns.
This August marks another special anniversary for me. I was not only born in August, but it also happens to be the same month I became born again when I was 12 years old. Accepting Jesus as my Savior was an amazing start of a journey that has been filled with memories and moments. It is hard to believe that was 48 years ago. Time flies so quickly.
It is often said, “It’s not about the destination but the journey.” How true that is. Far too many times we invest our energy, time and efforts towards what we want to achieve to reach the destination, rather than focus on what really matters.
I have discovered that what really matters is having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, nurturing relationships with family and friends, forgiving others and extending grace. Enjoying the journey, taking the time to “smell the roses,” and focusing on what really is important, needs to be a priority. The benefits are phenomenal, such as real peace and fulfillment. We can’t take things with us, when we die, but we have the potential to take and enjoy the relationships we develop on earth for years to come and onward to eternity.
It takes effort to discover how to keep God and His Word first place in our life. Proverbs 3:6 says, “In everything you do, put God first, and He will direct you and crown your efforts with success.”
It takes effort to put time into the relationships God values and godly wisdom to live at peace with everyone. Romans 12:18 exhort us by saying, “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you. Live at peace with everyone.” James 3:17-18 says, “Real wisdom, God’s wisdom, begins with a holy life and is characterized by getting along with others. It is gentle and reasonable, overflowing with mercy and blessings, not hot one day and cold the next, not two-faced. You can develop a healthy, robust community that lives right with God and enjoy its results only if you do the hard work of getting along with each other, treating each other with dignity and honor.” MSG
Allow God to guide you (see Isaiah 58:11) and help you order your steps (see Psalm 37:23). Embrace the journey, seek God’s wisdom and allow Him to order your steps. Live at peace with everyone. Even when it feels that we have lost our way, or the journey seems to be too long, or that the paths have too many turns, God promises to guide you every step of the way. He will always provide the guidance we need in order to enjoy the journey.
Blessings,
Cindy
