CDM BLOG: "Carved by God" October 2016
INSPIRATIONAL THOUGHTS:
I am enjoying the crisp cool air of autumn at night and the warmer sunny days. The leaves are beginning to turn color. There are mums on people’s front steps. I especially enjoy the family pictures on Facebook showing the pumpkin patches and mazes.
A popular dessert in our household this time of year is pumpkin pie. I am already seeing fresh pumpkin pies at the grocery store and enjoy a slice with whip cream whenever I get the chance. It reminds me of the day when I tried making a pumpkin pie from scratch and that thought led to me pondering on the fact that being a Christian is a lot like being a pumpkin pie.
If you have ever made pumpkin pie from scratch, you first need to identify a baking pumpkin. I discovered the hard way that not all pumpkins are good for baking, it takes a special kind of pumpkin to use for cooking in the same way God chooses us to be His cherished, special treasure. (See Deuteronomy 7:6).
Just as we need to clean the pumpkin to prepare it for baking, God lifts us up and washes the dirt from our skin and cleanses us from all forms of sin and guilt. (See 1 John 1:7)
Next you have to cut open the pumpkin to clean out the filling inside to include all the seeds, in the same way God goes deep inside us to scoop out all the slimy, yucky stuff, including seeds of doubt, spite, lies, and fear. (See Titus 2:14)
What starts as an everyday squash turns into a delicious baked pie full of spices and flavor, so we are to help people taste and see that the Lord is good. (See Psalm 34:8) We are to have our conversation gracious and seasoned so we will never be at a lost to answer anyone who puts a question to us. (Colossians 4:6)
Next time when you taste a piece of pumpkin pie, let it be a reminder how you are carved and molded by God. (See Isaiah 64:8) You are unique and favorable. (See Mark 9:50)
Blessings,
Cindy
